Cafe des Artistes may be revived. The owner of one of our neighboring restaurants, Il Gattopardo, plans to reopen this wonderful space next March with a southern Italian menu. Yes, the murals will still be there!

Fashion Week is moving uptown to Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center and is adding a fourth presentation space. The event, first held in 1993, will run from September 9-16. On November 24th, the 84th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will pass right in front of the Wellington again! The still-newish parade route begins at Central Park West at West 77th Street to Columbus Circle, around Columbus Circle at West 59th Street going east on Central Park South to Seventh Avenue then south on Seventh Avenue. At West 42nd Street, the parade will turn east to Sixth Avenue and then south on Sixth to West 34th Street where it turns west ending at Seventh Avenue. Don't wait, book now! Circle Line, sailing from West 42 Street and the West Side Highway, is again offering music cruises on Wednesdays and Thursdays.  Check them out at circleline42.com but note that these cruises are different from the one included in our Hudson 400 + 1 package.

The New York City Ballet will present its fall season September 14 through October 10. Featured will be 28 different ballets including 13 by George Balanchine and five by Jerome Robbins. The annual presentation of the Nutcracker will run November 26 through January 2, followed by a six-week repertory season which opens on January 18.

Encores!, the annual series at City Center (about 100 feet from the Wellington), will open its 2010-11 season with BELLS ARE RINGING which will run November 18-21. LOST IN THE STARS, a musical version of CRY, THE BELOVED COUNTRY will be presented February 3-6 and be followed by WHERE'S CHARLEY? March 17-20.

MUSEUM HAPPENINGS

At the AMERICAN FOLK ART MUSEUM - 45 W 53 Street - APROACHING ABSTRACTION, featuring works of self-taught artists, runs through September 12.  At MoMA (West 53 Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues) - MATISSE:  Radical Invention 1913-1917  (through October 11); THE ORIGINAL COPY:  Photograph of Sculpture 1839 to today, is on exhibit through November 1. METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART - With more than two million works of art spanning 5,000 years of world culture, The Metropolitan Museum of Art (located on Fifth Avenue at 82nd Street, less than two miles from the Wellington) attracts nearly five million people a year.   Plan a visit with the locals on Friday night, when the Met is open until 9pm and take in the beautiful sunset and perhaps a beverage on the Roof Garden. BROADWAY NOTES

You can easily walk to all Broadway theatres from the Wellington.

While most of Broadway is dark on Monday, the following shows perform at 8pm:  AMERICAN IDIOT; CHICAGO; IN THE HEIGHTS; MAMMA MIA; NEXT TO NORMAL; PHANTOM OF THE OPERA; RACE and ROCK OF AGES.  

Broadway revivals include:  A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, now with Bernadatte Peters and Elaine Stritch.  LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, with Kelsey Grammer and Douglas Hodge, is at the Longacre, 220 W 48 Street; PROMISES, PROMISES, with a score by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, is at the Broadway Theatre, Broadway at 53rd Street - less than a 5-minute walk from the Wellington.

Finally! Previews of Spider Man: Turn Off the Dark begin November 14. Opening date is scheduled for December 21. Tickets will go on sale in September.

DRIVING MISS DAISY, with James Earl Jones at the wheel and Vanessa Redgrave in the back seat, will arrive on Broadway October 7, for a sixteen-week run. You won't want to miss this one! SCOTTSBORO BOYS, with music by Kander and Ebb, will begin Broadway previews on October 7, at the Lyceum Theatre, less than a ten-minute walk from the Wellington. Joshua Henry, of American Idol fame, will play Haywood Patterson. Ray Charles will be played by Brandon Victor Dixon when "UNCHAIN MY HEART, the Ray Charles Musical" opens on Broadway in November. Stories from Ray Charles's life will be mixed with well-known hits.

RAIN, a Beatles tribute band, comes to Broadway. Tickets are on sale now, with previews scheduled for October 19.
