Rockefeller Center's Rainbow Room has re-opened after a major renovation. Although it will be offered primarily to private events, the Rainbow Room will be open to the public for Sunday Brunch, Monday evenings and some holidays.
More good news from the Metropolitan Opera: rush tickets are moving online and will be distributed by a lottery system. Buyers will be able to enter on the Met's website the evening before a performance. On the day of the performance winners will get an email at noon offering the chance to buy two tickets for $25 each. A minmum of 100 tickets will be available for each regular performance. Who says there are no bargains in New York City!!!

Tours of the hospital buildings on the South Side of Ellis Island where immigrants were screened and/or treated for infectious diseases are now available. The complex of thirty now dilapidated buildings has been closed since 1954. The three 90-minute tours daily currently are limited to 10 people. An exhibit of sixteen life-size photos is being installed by acclaimed international artist JR. Most exhibits on Ellis Island have been reopened since July 4, 2013, after having been closed for eight months following Superstorm Sandy.
The New York Botanical Garden Holiday Train Show is set for November 15 through January 19. The train and trolleys wind their way through replicas of more than 140 New York landmarks including the Empire State Building, the original Yankee Stadium and Grand Central Terminal....and it's all within the warmth of the Country's largest Victorian-style glasshouse. The Apollo Theater's 2014/15 season will include the music of New Orleans (November 8), a tribute to Bob Marley (November 29) and Ellington at Christmas (December 13-14). More information is available at apollotheater.org.
